Windows WireGuard Setup

Follow this guide to set up WireGuard on your Windows PC

Download WireGuard for Windows

Download the official WireGuard client for Windows.

💡 Tip: The installer works on Windows 7, 8.1, 10, and 11 (64-bit versions).

Install WireGuard

Run the installer and follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the downloaded wireguard-installer.exe
  2. If Windows asks for permission, click "Yes"
  3. Follow the installation wizard - the default settings are fine
  4. Click "Install" and wait for completion
  5. WireGuard will launch automatically after installation
⚠️ Administrator Rights: You'll need administrator privileges to install WireGuard on Windows.

Get Your Configuration

Download your WireGuard configuration from the GetIP.online dashboard.

⚠️ Account Required: You need to create an account and generate a tunnel first.

Import Configuration

Import your configuration into WireGuard:

  1. In the WireGuard application, click "Import tunnel(s) from file"
  2. Browse to your Downloads folder
  3. Select your .conf file and click "Open"
  4. Your tunnel will appear in the tunnel list
💡 Alternative Method: You can also drag and drop the .conf file directly into the WireGuard window.

Activate Your Tunnel

Now you can connect to your IPv6 tunnel:

  1. Select your tunnel from the list on the left
  2. Click the "Activate" button
  3. The status will change to "Active"
  4. You'll see real-time transfer statistics
⚠️ Windows Firewall: Windows may ask if you want to allow WireGuard through the firewall. Click "Allow" for both private and public networks.

Verify Connection

Check that your tunnel is working correctly:

  1. The tunnel status should show "Active"
  2. You'll see data being transferred in the statistics
  3. The WireGuard icon in the system tray will be highlighted
💡 Test IPv6: Open your browser and visit test-ipv6.com to verify your IPv6 connection.

Using Command Line (Optional)

You can also verify using Command Prompt:

  1. Press Win + R, type cmd and press Enter
  2. Type ipconfig /all to see your network adapters
  3. Look for the WireGuard adapter with an IPv6 address

Troubleshooting

Connection fails to activate

  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure no other VPN software is running
  • Try running WireGuard as Administrator
  • Check Windows Firewall settings

No internet after connecting

  • Deactivate and reactivate the tunnel
  • Check if your ISP supports IPv6
  • Try restarting the WireGuard service

Auto-start on Windows boot

  • Right-click on your tunnel in WireGuard
  • Select "Edit"
  • Check "Start on boot" option
  • Click "Save"

All Set!

You're now connected to the IPv6 internet through GetIP.online. Your tunnel will remain active for 30 days.
